ABSTRACT- The goal of a coach should be to bring out the best in fighters based on their individual needs. For this to happen, there must be focused objectives that lead a fighter to desired outcomes. This requires pinpointing the right skills to practice, understanding how to build fluency, and programming for the successful transference of those skills into the natural environment (i.e. the fight). Understanding the difference between fundamental skills, component skills, and composite skills as well as concepts such as behavioral cusps pivotal behaviors, and generative sets makes the behavior analyst the perfect "coach of coaches" to maximize learning and general application of skills across any sport. This “smart teaching” reduces time, money, effort, and in MMA and most sports, can increase safety.
OBJECTIVE 1-The participant will be able to provide various ways coaching has been defined, demonstrated, and programmed and differentiate it from training
OBJECTIVE 2- The participant will be able to describe strategies for root cause analysis of performance issues through performance diagnostics.
OBJECTIVE 3- The participant will be able to list ways to help ensure coaching initiatives are deliberate, effective and produce performance improvements that transfer from training to the post training environment
